Weekly Devotionals | Deuteronomy 5

Mar 5, 2026    Wim Codington

As we continue our journey through Deuteronomy, we arrive at chapter 5, where Moses recounts the Ten Commandments to a new generation. Though first spoken at Mount Sinai (Horeb), these words were not only for their parents, they were for them. And they are for us.

Deuteronomy 5 brings us into the heart of identity and destiny. Who is the Lord? Who are His people? What kind of life flows from loving Him, trusting Him, and obeying His commandments?

In this teaching, we walk carefully through the Ten Commandments as the foundation of God’s moral law. These commands reveal His holiness, justice, mercy, and steadfast love. They show us what it looks like to worship Him alone, honor others as image-bearers, and live with integrity, contentment, and reverence.

We also reflect on the distinction between moral, civil, and ceremonial laws, and why the moral law continues to shape the lives of those who follow Jesus today.

This chapter is a call to holy awe, faithful obedience, and wholehearted devotion.
